Love Is All – Ageing Had Never Been His Friend

Years ago, after a long evening of waiting for midnight / my 30th birthday to come around, night owl Wike was the first one to congratulate me and to point out the fact that during the very first minute of my thirties, iTunes decided to reward my patience by playing Love Is All‘s “Ageing Had Never Been His Friend”. I haven’t trusted the shuffle algorythm ever since.

Today, Love Is All’s new album “Two Thousand and Ten Injuries” popped up on VPRO’s Luisterpaal, and again Wike was the first one to mention it. The two are forever connected, or so it seems. You can go listen to that and/or enjoy the oldie below that originally appeared on their 2005 album “Nine Times That Same Song”. Or you can do something entirely different, like study these perfectly cute rainbow cakes to surprise me next time my birthday comes around.

Shonen Knife – Twist Barbie

Shonen Knife - Let's KnifeLater tonight I’ll be heading over to De Nieuwe Anita to watch “Kamikaze Girls“. (Also viewable on Youtube in its entirety if you don’t mind intermissions.)

In preparation for that and to mourn the fact that this awesome band is playing in Paradiso on the day I leave for vacation (I would have seriously considered taking a later flight had I known this before), I figured it was time for a little Shonen Knife.

Here’s a live version of Twist Barbie. Enjoy!

Kitty, Daisy & Lewis – Going Up the Country

Kitty Daisy & LewisWhile listening to the Savage Lovecast, I noticed 18 people on VPRO’s Luisterpaal had rated Kitty, Daisy & Lewis‘ album with an average of four stars. Although the Luisterpaal’s audience often hands out stars more easily than I do, my interest was piqued since tags like “blues” and “retro” were included and awesome hairdos graced the cover of the album.
I downloaded all 10 songs, enjoyed close to 30 minutes of awesome, very danceable and must-see-live music and checked their tour dates immediately after the last song ended, only to be left very disappointed. No shows nearby in the foreseeable future. Boo! I now fear checking past dates for finding out about awesome bands nanoseconds after they’ve played near or in Amsterdam is one of my many unfortunate talents.

Regardless, here’s the video for the first song on their self-titled album Going Up the Country. <3

Vampyros Lesbos: Sexadelic Dance Party – The Lions and the Cucumber

Vampyros LesbosLife pulled tricks on me! Awesome, happy and fun tricks, but tricks nonetheless. And thanks to them, writing about the music I listened to quickly dropped to the very bottom of my to do list for weeks and weeks.
Until the opening of Lesbian Vampire Killers (this better be good!) this week reminded me of the existance of the 1971 erotic horror movie Vampyros Lesbos and the accompanying grooviest soundtrack ever: Sexadelic Dance Party. Hurray!

I could not resist uploading “The Lions and the Cucumber” for you to enjoy. Happy listening!
